The Dream Act

On Saturday, December 18, the U.S. Senate failed to reach the 60 votes needed to obtain cloture on

H.R. 5281, the Development, Relief, and Education of Alien Minors Act (DREAM) Act of 2010.  The vote was

55 in favor of cloture and 41 against it.  Because the Senate was unable to reach cloture and cut off debate

on the bill, the legislation was not able to move forward and will not be considered again this year.  Both

of Nebraska's senators, Ben Nelson and Mike Johanns, voted against cloture, re. against moving forward

on the DREAM Act.

The directors of the Justice for Immigrants program at the United states Conference of Catholic Bishops are confident that the DREAM Act will one day become the law of the land.
